Retriever AI
A free AI browser agent for web tasks, lead research and form filling
Overview
Retriever works across open websites and your signed-in accounts. You can use it from a Chrome extension, a separate cloud browser, an API or MCP, and there is also Rover, an embeddable agent you can put inside your own product. Typical uses are lead enrichment, research, data pulls, job application prep and agentic purchasing.
The free tier is unusual: supported AI models and cloud browser time cost zero credits under a daily fair-use allowance, in exchange for sponsored cards. It launched on Product Hunt on 14 October 2026 with 221 points, finishing #3 of the day.
Key Features
Chrome extension: Works inside sites you are already signed in to.
Cloud browser: Runs tasks in a separate hosted browser.
API and MCP: Programmatic access, with Chrome control on paid plans.
Rover: An embeddable agent for adding browser automation to your own product.
Schedules and triggers: Recurring runs, available on paid plans.
Bring your own AI provider: Use your own Gemini or other keys to avoid model-credit charges.

Pros
Genuinely free mode: No card, no AI API key and no subscription needed to start.
Several ways to run it: Extension, cloud, API, MCP and embeddable agent.
Cheap entry plan: Starter is $9.99/month.
Private Mode: Zero data retention for workflows on Team and Scale.
Cons
Free plan is ad-supported and capped: Sponsored cards appear and there is a daily fair-use allowance.
Credits add up: Data enrichment, managed proxies and cloud resources consume credits separately even with your own AI key.
Key features locked behind paid plans: Schedules, triggers, cookie sync, Chrome API control and ad-free runs need a subscription.
Seats cost extra: Pro includes 1 seat and each extra seat is $9.99.
Early and unproven: Very new launch, with no independent track record found.
What Makes It Unique
Retriever offers the same browser agent as a free extension, a cloud browser, an API/MCP server and an embeddable component, with a sponsor-funded free mode that costs no credits. That breadth of delivery at a $0 entry point is the differentiator.
