Agentcard

Scoped, single-use debit cards that let AI agents pay for real things safely

Overview

Agentcard is a Y Combinator-backed answer to a genuinely tricky problem: once you let an AI agent take real actions, giving it a real payment method is either impossible or dangerous. Handing an agent your actual card details is a non-starter, so Agentcard funds a wallet and issues single-use virtual cards scoped to one purchase, capping the blast radius if the agent goes off script or gets manipulated into an unwanted purchase.

The single-use, self-destructing card model is a sensible design for a genuinely new risk category, and the YC backing gives it more credibility than most brand-new fintech-adjacent tools launching solo. That said, agent payments are a very new space with no established track record yet on things like dispute handling, fraud liability, or what happens when an agent's approval flow is bypassed, so treat this as promising infrastructure to test cautiously with small amounts before trusting it with anything significant.

Key Features

  • Single-Use Cards: Each card closes after its first transaction, capping the damage if an agent misbehaves.

  • MCP Compatibility: Works out of the box with Claude, Cursor, and other MCP-enabled AI clients.

  • Human-in-the-Loop Approval: Card creation and spending can require explicit approval before funds move.

  • Real-Time Balance and Transaction Tracking: Monitor what an agent has spent and what's left as it happens.

  • Credential Isolation: Real payment details are never exposed directly to the agent.

Pricing

Starting price

No subscription fee; it's pay-as-you-go per card funded. The Free plan caps cards at $50 each, and the Basic plan raises that to $500 per card, though the price of the Basic plan itself isn't publicly listed.

  • Free: $0 subscription. Cards capped at $50 each; pay only for funded card amounts.

  • Basic: Cards capped at $500 each; exact subscription or fee cost not publicly disclosed.

  • Organization Default: $50 cap per card by default, with higher limits available on request through support.

Disclaimer: pricing may change, confirm on Agentcard's own site before funding a card.

Pros

  • Y Combinator Backed: Carries more credibility and likely longer runway than an unfunded solo launch.

  • Sensible Risk Design: Single-use, scoped cards directly address the real danger of giving agents unrestricted payment access.

  • No Subscription Required: Pay only for the cards you actually fund and use.

  • Easy Integration: MCP compatibility means minimal setup for Claude or Cursor users.

Cons

  • Too New for a Track Record: Agent payments are a brand-new category with no established history on dispute resolution or fraud handling.

  • Basic Plan Price Not Public: The higher $500-per-card tier's actual cost isn't listed anywhere we could confirm.

  • Small Team: A young YC company, so support capacity and long-term reliability are unproven at scale.

  • Trust Requires Caution: Handing any payment access to an autonomous agent carries inherent risk, however well-scoped.

What Makes It Unique

  • Self-Destructing Cards: Cards close after a single transaction, a purpose-built safety mechanism for autonomous agent spending.
